The following tools use the OpenFDA API to show you data from the top 1000 adverse event reports that have been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Tip: If you are displaying a large number of results (eg. 1000) and want to search for a particular item, you may be able to use your browser’s “find in page” function. This is usually Ctrl+F on a PC, or Command+F on a Mac. Mobile devices usually have a similar function, although this may vary depending on the browser.
Search by drug name
Search by side effect
Please note that when searching by side effect, variations of the same drug may be listed separately. For example, if you search for “visual snow syndrome”, there are separate results for:
- CITALOPRAM
- CITALOPRAM HYDROBROMIDE
- CITALOPRAM HYDROBROMIDE – BP
Therefore, you may need to go down the list and add the different variations together.
Proportional reporting ratio (PRR) and reporting odds ratio (ROR)
Search by Year
Spreadsheets
To help with your searches, you can download spreadsheets containing the names of all drugs and all reactions used in the FDA database.
More ways to search
In addition to the above tools, you might be interested in our RxISK Zones. They allow you to search for groups of adverse reactions related to a particular side effect.
You can also enter the name of a drug or side effect in the website search box at the bottom of the page. This will search our website for any related content.
