  1. Well done Jan, excellent write up on some of the issues relating to FACS.

My Son has Fetal Valproate Syndrome, and is disabled for life. I attended a MHRA seminar in February 2012 on Paediatric medication and medication during pregnancy. More than 50% of attendees were from Big Pharma. I raised a question regarding Sodium Valproate (EPILIM / DEPAKOTE) and why the MHRA hadn’t issued ‘Caution in Use’ warnings and the MHRA spokeswoman said that they didn’t consider it to be a defective drug so they won’t issue a warning. The FDA in the USA have issued warnings to prescribers stating that clinicians should expect legal action if they prescribe DEPAKOTE due to birth defects.

I do not believe the MHRA is ‘Safeguarding Public Health’ which is what it is set up to do. If you want to do something about it please let me know. emma@emmafriedmann.com

  2. Hello,

    What are great article.

I am shocked by the lack of awareness and attention that is brought to this condition and would be very keen to find out more about it. Would you be able to refer me to the journal that you mentioned that first published the information?

Many thanks for any help you can offer.
